Thought of the Day: Car Ownership Models (Feb 25, 2014)

Nikki replies to Mark’s thoughts from yesterday on battery swapping technology and talks about car ownership models and per-use leasing.

Unlike our other shows, Thought of the Day is our chance to muse on one big story in the news each day, using it as a spring board to explore other topics, sometimes even outside of the Transport Evolved universe. Every weekday, Nikki and Mark will take it in turns to explore a story that catches our eye, developing a back and forth conversation between Transport Evolved’s two regular hosts.

As with our Quick Charge series, our Thought of the Day will be recorded very simply on a single smartphone, but then quickly edited together using the jump cut edit style popular with many YouTube vlogs. We think this style complements our other shows and offers us a different way to share our thoughts with you, our readers and viewers.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

As you say Nikki we are the customers and we ultimately make the market, so I would like our government to free up our present situation by encouraging us to own more vehicles. That way we would use the vehicle that most suits our needs that day or journey. What I mean is do away with road tax and require a driver to have just one insurance policy to be on the roads. Then restrict or incentive-ies (wish I could spell) how and where we use them.

A few days behind the thought of the day.nnnRegarding BMW and HOV access… They’re going to lose me on i3 with REX if I can’t get the Green sticker and the delay ALONE will make it lose out on the Green Sticker (and that’s for the early deliveries for Electronauts.) It was going to be important BECAUSE of the sticker for the resale value of the car to have the sticker on it.nnnAs for the swap ownership concept. The BMW i3 model of owning the i3 and being able to borrow another BMW as you need it is a good hybrid to the car sharing and personal ownership model. It’s like having a fleet of differing BMW vehicles in your garage (unless you already have a fleet.) Granted all the other vehicles are ICE.
