Thought of the Day: City EVs (Mark, April 11, 2014)

Mark responds to Nikki’s thoughts from yesterday on EV owners’ groups and talks about the ‘city car’ aspect of EVs.

Unlike our other shows, Thought of the Day is our chance to muse on one big story in the news each day, using it as a spring board to explore other topics, sometimes even outside of the Transport Evolved universe. Every weekday, Nikki and Mark will take it in turns to explore a story that catches our eye, developing a back and forth conversation between Transport Evolved’s two regular hosts.

As with our Quick Charge series, our Thought of the Day will be recorded very simply on a single smartphone, but then quickly edited together using the jump cut edit style popular with many YouTube vlogs. We think this style complements our other shows and offers us a different way to share our thoughts with you, our readers and viewers.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Mark, this is the one big thing that surely Nissan must have picked up in the last 3 years. We are not using our Leaf as city cars. We are putting in substantial mileages, in my case 17,000/year. And in doing so we are bombing about like we did in ordinary cars. We don’t get the range they expected and we make a big fuss about rapid charging.nBut we know most charging is domestic and we know the high list price is the major factor against greater adoption of evs. Just imagine how popular the E-up would be if the price was right. We are hung up on range and it being a “city car” and lets have a few dedicated ev dealerships starting with one in Northampton.
