Thought of the Day: EV Holidays (Mark, April 17, 2014)

Mark responds to Nikki’s thoughts from yesterday on what epic EV trips he’d like to make and asks if anyone is going on a EV holiday this weekend?

Unlike our other shows, Thought of the Day is our chance to muse on one big story in the news each day, using it as a spring board to explore other topics, sometimes even outside of the Transport Evolved universe. Every weekday, Nikki and Mark will take it in turns to explore a story that catches our eye, developing a back and forth conversation between Transport Evolved’s two regular hosts.

As with our Quick Charge series, our Thought of the Day will be recorded very simply on a single smartphone, but then quickly edited together using the jump cut edit style popular with many YouTube vlogs. We think this style complements our other shows and offers us a different way to share our thoughts with you, our readers and viewers.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

What is interesting about the current Tesla Supercharger Coast to Coast Route is the National Parks that are available to Model S drivers on this journey.nnnI have been following @plugshare in his coast to coast drive and his drive and he has had some interesting scenery. nnnJust make sure that if you ever travel the US from Coast to Coast that you plan accordingly, I took a Southern route with my best friend over two decades ago in a moving van (he was moving home to LA from Boston) and the two days through Texas were the most boring of the trip. Houston was interesting, but the highway between Houston and El Paso was dreadful, flat, and boring (basically the distance from Bristol to Aberdeen and return halfway (approx. 750 miles)).

Bju00f8rn Nyland (maker of youtube videos) is going on a fairly epic easter vacation EV roadtrip.nnHe’s going Oslo – North Cape – Oslo, a trip of about 4500 km / 3000 miles. Of which about 1000 km/600 miles is covered by superchargers and the rest of the time he’ll be mooching 400V three-phase electricity from fellow Model S owners and shopping centers.nn’m really looking forward to seeing the video he will make. I’m personally from Northern Norway, and seeing the Model S flowing through the scenery will be awesome. And to think that by summer 2015 – the whole trip can be done using superchargers… :DnnI attached a picture of his Model S charging in Mosju00f8en (I think). He posted it on the Norwegian EV forum.
