Thought of the Day: Should Electric Car Range Be Redefined? (Nikki, May 12, 2014)

Nikki responds to Mark’s thoughts from Friday on car taxation, and asks if electric car range should be redefined using more pessimistic figures?

Unlike our other shows, Thought of the Day is our chance to muse on one big story in the news each day, using it as a spring board to explore other topics, sometimes even outside of the Transport Evolved universe. Every weekday, Nikki and Mark will take it in turns to explore a story that catches our eye, developing a back and forth conversation between Transport Evolved’s two regular hosts.

As with our Quick Charge series, our Thought of the Day will be recorded very simply on a single smartphone, but then quickly edited together using the jump cut edit style popular with many YouTube vlogs. We think this style complements our other shows and offers us a different way to share our thoughts with you, our readers and viewers.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

ICEs are sold with MPG on the sticker, EVs with range on the sticker. Both of those depend on terrain, driving style and the weather. Neither of them are a guarantee. In Europe, with that silly NEDC neigher of them are all that realistic for the general public. So something should be done about that. For both technologies. And a way to give them both a sticker with the same information should be made up. And I don’t think MPGe is the way to go.nnI’m waiting for the day when we can drop that range from the EV sticker (as in, you know it will be sufficient)
