Tesla Model S

Charge Up at Transport Evolved’s Christmas Chat This Weekend!

Have you ever wanted to be a guest on Transport Evolved’s weekly panel show? Have you ever wanted your five minutes of future car fame? And are you somewhere in the UK?

We're heading on a road trip. Fancy meeting up for a chat?

We’re heading on a road trip. Fancy meeting up for a chat?

This weekend, you could have your chance to become plug-in famous. Not A-list famous, you understand, but famous in the world of plug-in and future cars. At least for a few minutes.

As you might have heard last weekend, there’s no live show from Transport Evolved this week as we’ll be on the road in a Tesla Model S. And we want to meet up with as many Transport Evolved listeners as we can en-route!

The best laid plans…

Back in August, we borrowed a Tesla Model S P85 with the goal of driving 1,000 miles around the UK in a weekend, combining family visits with a good, old-fashioned road test. But a last-minute family crisis left us with just a few hundred miles on the clock, and no recorded footage of the event.

Rather than scupper our plans forever, we’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on a Tesla Model S again — this time a Model S 60 kWh — and this weekend, we’ll be trying the trip again, testing out a Supercharger for the first time, seeing just how far we can comfortably travel on a charge, and trying to figure out if the Tesla Model S really is the amazing car that everyone says it is.

While we do that, we hope to meet as many of you as possible en-route for a coffee, a chat, and a charge. And with your permission, we might even film you for this Sunday’s special edition show.

Our Route

Tomorrow — that’s Friday — we’re heading from our Bristol offices north to East Anglia, picking up some supercharging in Reading at Tesla’s Green Park Supercharger before heading up to South Mimms for a quick coffee and Supper at the A14 Services in Cambridgeshire.

Where possible, we're going to try and stick to our planned route.

Where possible, we’re going to try and stick to our planned route.

Sadly, we can’t give you an exact time, but we’ll be sharing our location with you all using Glympse and the hashtag #TEChristmasChat. If we had to guess, we’re likely to be at Reading some time around 5:30pm, South Mimms around 7pm, and the A14 some time later.

Obviously, we won’t need to stop and charge everywhere, but we’re planning these stops to give as many of you in the area a chance to drop by and say hi as possible. (That said, we’d love it if you’d let us charge first…)

On Sunday, we’ll follow a different route back to the south west, calling in at the Green Britain Centre in the morning, Corely for a quick coffee, and the Birmingham Supercharger for a late lunch. Due to some of the weather constraints, we can’t tell you quite when we’ll be at each location yet, but if you follow us on Twitter, (and keep an eye on the map above) we’ll let you know more timings as we have it.

As with our outward journey, we’re planning more stops than we really need, but we can’t guarantee how long we’ll be at each stop — so be sure to tweet us if you’re intending on meeting us somewhere en-route.

And if you are, be prepared to have a microphone and camera pointed in your direction, because this Sunday’s show is about YOU!

Please note: While we’re going to do our best to stick to our planned route and timings, we may be forced to change our plans en-route due to some rather nasty weather heading our way. We’ll be sure to tweet if our plans change, with the hashtag #TEChristmasChat.
