    Toyota is so full of it with hydrogen, getting all over the media, while the 2012-14 Rav4 EV (BEV) got nothing in the media, but, raves from people who drive them, and WE want them to make them. I’ll save my speech for now, (I can tell you why Toyota is this way), but, Japan (government) made a really bad decision in pushing hydrogen fuel cells for transportation. …In just a few years we will see a much more positive view of Battery Electric Vehicles in the US as prices come down, range goes up, charging infrastructure is continuing to build out (we need to push for apartment/condominium complexes to have home charging accessibility), and people drive them and realize they don’t even need charging stations for most daily driving, just plug-in at home at night, and charging will be available for those long trips, when needed.

    As far as a Nissan Leaf “line” of cars…mostly would like to see the van come to US with a bit more range (120-150 miles), I’m sure they could sell tons to businesses, but, mini-vans aren’t appealing in the US for families, so, perhaps a CUV Leaf, with an AWD version for those in the North.

    But, my preference would be a sporty car…I happen to like the eGolf, except, wish it had more range. (200 miles would be better for the US…we have thousands of miles of open road here, and we like to be able to spontaneously get in our car and go on a road trip. So, I do agree w/Elon Musk that 200 miles is the bottom minimum range an EV should have in normal driving, without having to drive super economy for that range.) One thing with range, here in the US, over other countries: people will drive hundreds of miles to visit family or go on vacation. I mean 500-800 or more. In the southern states you will see plates from all over the country, especially from the North. They will share driving to get to destination with minimal stops for food/restroom. So, yeah, 150 mile range or less is not that great for those that have the car for everything…not all of us can have a DD and a trip car. It’s an American mindset to have a do-everything vehicle, for daily driving, and what I already said about road trips and vacations. This is why we need range and DC-fast charging infrastructure. Personally, I think every state needs to have DC fast charging at all rest areas. OK, that was longer than intended.
