Earlier this month, while nobody was noticing, Mahindra pulled the spiritual successor to the infamous G-Wiz electric car from sale in the UK, citing poor sales interest.

With a sticker price not much less than a full-size highway capable electric car, customers weren’t interested in a limited-speed electric vehicle. Which raises the question: what future to low-speed electric cars have?

    Whew, I thought you were never go to get beyond the Mahindra! I agree, low speed EVs are not likely to catch on very much in the US, except in very specific places – like retirement communities (where golf carts are already common on city streets) or possibly a carsharing services in dense downtown areas. Otherwise, North America is just too spread out, and the cost of owning a highway capable car is sufficiently cheap that few people would bother with a specialized vehicle like these.

    But even the Twizy hasn’t been that successful in Europe (or Asia, for that matter), where it is allowed to go much fater.
