Autonomous cars are coming — like it or not. But in recent weeks we’ve had a series of nasty accidents involving semi-autonomous cars which illustrate the fact that not all autonomous vehicle technology is ready for prime time yet.

At face value, accidents — especially fatal ones — involving semi autonomous or fully autonomous cars actually slows down the autonomous vehicle development and adoption process.
