Over the past few years, the FIA Formula E race series has helped change hearts and minds when it comes to both the use of electric vehicles in motorsport and the use of electric vehicles in everyday life.
Growing from a small, quirky race series with a car-swap in the middle of each race, Formula E has grown into a fully-established electric car race series. Later this year when the 2018/19 race season gets under way, teams will no-longer have to swap cars mid race thanks to a new vehicle design with a battery pack large enough to last the entire race, further growing the legitimacy of the sport.
Late last week, it was reported that Formula E may be about to launch a brand-new race series for off-road electric vehicles, called Formula Extreme E. But what is it, and what will its impact be on the world of motor racing?
