How Can Autonomous Cars Communicate With Humans?

You may not realize it, but when you share the road with other people, you’re constantly giving off a series of subtle non-verbal cues that help other people figure out what you’re going to do next, what you have (and haven’t) seen, and what you’re focusing on.

Those signals help us stay safe on the road. But when it comes to self-driving autonomous cars, they don’t have the same capabilities as humans when it comes to non-verbal communication.

That can scare pedestrians and cause other road users to hesitate. So it makes sense to develop a way of communicating with humans as part of autonomous car development. The only question? How and what should autonomous vehicles be communicating with humans?
