Since 2016, Tesla has been hard at work developing its very own set of Autopilot hardware — and the software to run on it.
Its goal? To develop full-autonomous electric vehicles that can not only be our personal forms of transport but also form a global network of robotaxis that we can hire at a moment’s notice. Clean, green, and zero emission.
Today at its very first Investor Day, Tesla unveiled its own fully-autonomous self-driving chipset for the first time. It detailed exactly how its machine learning and neural net works, and it promised that we’d have self-driving robotaxis on the roads in just over a year’s time (pending regulatory approval).
Is Tesla about to revolutionize the way we travel once more? Will it keep its promises? Or will regulators prove a massive oil slick to progress?
